How to dress your figure!

Everyone comes in different body shapes. It is very rare to meet someone who is completely satisfied with their body shape. But there are interesting ways of dressing that can play up your good points and subtly downplay the bad. A good way to learn about what you should and shouldn't wear is to get celebrity inspiration. The most important thing to analyze is the SHAPE and not the size.

"Fashion is architecture. It is a matter of proportions"
 Coco chanel.

Are you petite, pear shaped/ bottom heavy, boyish, apple shaped/ top heavy, hour glass? Here are some fashion tips for you.

PETITE: If you're five foot three or under and have a small body frame, you've got the petite body shape. Examples of petite celebrities are Eva Longoria and Victoria Beckham.

Eva Longoria and Victoria Beckham.

  •  Bare some flesh in a decent way, showing legs will make you taller.
  • Draw attention to the top part of your body with stripes and patterns.
  • Avoid baggy clothes so your clothes wont dominate you.
  • Avoid girly colours like baby pink and lilac so you wont appear childlike.
  • Go for a high waistline for skirts and trousers and accessorize with a belt.
  • Add inches with a pair of stunning heels.

PEAR SHAPED: The main traits of a pair shaped body are; wider hips and thighs, narrow shoulders and small bust. A classic way to disguise pear shaped hips is to wear clothes that balance out the proportions of your frame.Examples of  pear shaped celebrities include Rihanna, Shakira and beyonce.

Beyonce and Rihanna.

  • Shoulder pads in jackets will help broaden your shoulders and balance out wider hips.
  • Wear short tops or dresses that are tight by the waist
  • Avoid tapered and straight leg trousers.
  • Consider a padded bra that can give you a confident boost.
  • A line skirts work well as they make the waist look small.

BOYISH: If you've got a sporty, strong body with few curves, you've got the athletic or boyish body shape.  The main trait of the boyish shaped body are; Undefined waist, small bust and narrow hips. Celebrities with boyish shapes are Gwen stefani, pink, nicole kidman and kate hudson.

Gwen stefani.

  • Use A line skirts to add definition to your waist and experiment with lengths.
  • Tube dresses and big belts will look good to enhance your waist line.
  • Look for any feminine details on your clothes to soften any hard lines.
  • Knitwear is a great way to create soft lines.
  • Wear leggings and skinny jeans.

HOURGLASS: The bust and the hip of an hourglass shaped body are almost the same. If you have an hourglass shaped body, you're really lucky. Most women die for a body like yours. It will be fun to dress up an hourglass shaped body as most clothes are likely to fit perfectly. Celebrities with hourglass shaped bodies include; Scarlett Johansson, Katherine Heigl, Dita Von Teese.

Scarlett Johanssen.

  • High waisted skirts will help emphasize the curve of your hip.
  • Don't be afraid to show your waist particularly if its your narrowest point.
  • Try a corset- style top.
  • Wear tight fitting A line dresses with jewels.
  • Avoid wearing baggy clothes as they will make you look dowdy.

Ultimate make up do's and don'ts

When we were little, playing dress up was for the fun of it. No one told us what was right and wrong to wear. It's pretty much still the same way. There are no rules on what you choose to wear make up but there are rules on how to apply it. Make up tips fill the pages of fashion magazines, you tube videos and beauty blogs. Most of this so called "advice" is confusing and unnecessarily complicated and may HARM YOUR SKIN although there are well intentioned. So Its important that you have a proper knowledge of the type of make up that suits your face and skin.
I've compiled a list of make up do's and don'ts. Follow these tips to achieve a gorgeous look.

Make up do's.

  • Make up should only be applied on a freshly washed and moisturized face. Its important to have beauty wipes for this.

freshly washed and moisturized face.

  • Use a foundation that matches your skin tone EXACTLY! If you're dark skinned use a foundation that compliments your skin tone and if you're of a lighter complexion, use a foundation that blends with your skin. You can always try on the foundation in the store before you buy it. Using the wrong colour will lead you to nothing but problems.
  • Apply foundation to every part of your face. From your eyelids to your brow, under your eyes, from you cheek down past your jaw. You're not applying it on you neck but you want it to blend naturally which is why its best to use a good foundation that matches your skin tone.
  • Wear colour on you cheeks. Even on a face with foundation, powder and concealer, your face can look flat . Fix this with blush and use complementary colours.
  • Eye shadow is all about enhancing your eye area so its best not to use eye shadow colours that match your eyes. The basic concept of an eye shadow design is to shape or shade in well blended progression from light to dark colours.

Good eye shadow.

  • You can do your eye make up first then apply your foundation and concealer to your face afterwards to remove eye shadow that might have flaked off underneath your eyes.
  • Apply eyeliner as close to the lash line as possible. You have to see what you're doing so its important  you have bright even light in front of you.

eye liner

  • Use professional make up brushes.

Make up don'ts

  • BLEND YOUR EYE SHADOW. For me there's nothing worse than unblended make up, eye shadow to be more specific. This is the most common mistake people make and it has come to my attention. We don't want to see where the colour begins or ends, therefore no harsh lines.

Unblended eye shadow
partially blended.

Unblended eye shadow.

  • Don't wear full make up everyday. Consider a simple look for your daily life and something dramatic for a party or occasion.
  • Don't overdo your eyebrows. This is another common mistake I've noticed. Brows that are drawn too thick and dark make you look too artificial and drag queen-ish. If you're confused about what to do with your brows, visit an eye brow specialist or better still book an eyebrow threading appointment.

  • Don't drown in lip gloss. Applying too much lip gloss can make you look like you're drooling instead of adding proper shine to your lips
  • Don't wear dark lip liner with a lighter lip colour. Avoid this. We're no longer in the 90's when it was acceptable.
  • Don't overdo mascara or false lashes. Clumped mascara is distracting and messy while false lashes need to be applied properly. When using false lashes, try not to get thick tightly packed ones to avoid looking like you've got a bug in your eye.

bad falsies.

  • Be careful with blush. Try not to use too much blush.
  • Don't try exotic designs on you lips except you're going for a costume party.

tacky.
bad make up.

(In certain cases, eye shadow isn't blended when going for dramatic or costume looks)
With these few tips and examples, I'm sure you wont be making any mistake.

Valentines day; dress to impress!

Hey everyone! Valentines day is fast approaching and I have more than enough tips to keep you dolled up and ready for the 14th. I'm sure you read my previous post on gift suggestions and some of you found it very helpful  so thanks for the feedback. Anyway, I've put together some of my favourite picks for this year, so let me know what you think about it.

  1. The Lunch date: So my first collection is from river island, as you can see some of the items are limited edition. I picked out all these outfits because in most cases its best to stick to subtle colours like baby pink, beige, cream, navy blue e.t.c when going on a lunch date.

lunch date: river island collection.

  • Short baby pink bow dress
  • Snake skin clutch bag
  • River island platform sandals
  • Gold drape leaf earrings
  • Gold chain bracelet

2. The movie date: If you're going to the movies, casual clothes work the best; playsuits, casual jumpsuits or a fitted blouse and jeans preferably.

Movie date.

  • Spot print zip front playsuit
  • Light wash denim gilet
  • Stone cut out brogues
  • Black enamel high top stud earrings
  • Lydia cross body bag

3. The formal date: If you're going for a formal party or theatre act or anything that requires formal dressing, you can wear a knee length dress or a high waist skirt and a fitted pleasant blouse. My third collection is quite formal but still very stylish. The white ruffled top tucked inside the black pencil skirt with amazing jewelry and matching shoes.

Formal date.

  • White ruffle front blouse
  • Black ruched wrap pencil skirt
  • Black colour block court shoes
  • Gold poodle stud earrings
  • Gold flower cluster necklace
  • White and gold evening purse

4. The dinner date: This is the most important part of the day so you can either wear your little black dress or a sexy red dress that will make heads turn..... Quick tip: You don't "have" to wear a red dress because its valentines day, Its not a uniform. Most people like to go with the flow but Its really not that necessary. So for my evening collection, I'm going to stick to the red and  I've picked out a sassy red dress that will definitely be an eye catcher. (Plus notice the Louboutins in my previous post)

Dinner date.

  • Red slim fit dress
  • Christian Louboutin heels
  • Long silver earrings
  • Heart pendant necklace

party make up

<a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/3386366/femme-fatale?claim=mzd9pg9xr72">Follow my blog  Hey guys! As you all know I'm a huge fan of make up and I love trying out different looks so today I just came up with two "not too complicated" looks and if you wish to duplicate them, contact me and Ill do a quick tutorial on my next post. So here it is;

So this is the first look, my Purple dramatic party eye make up look (Sorry about my camera date). What I did here was to blend a whole bunch of colours for my eye shadow and the secret to applying good eye shadow is simply blending the colours well to achieve a softer look especially when using lots of bright colours cause you don't want that drag queen make up do you? Anyway I used Blue, Purple, Lilac, Black, Brown, Gold and Silver but the most obvious colour here is probably the purple and because all the colours are properly blended, It doesn't look too sharp. What do you think?  For my blush, I used a very soft brownish red from my make up palette. And for my lips and face, I've got cherry red and mac studio fix...

Guess where I got my inspiration from?

This pretty much explains it!!! I love Beyonce so I decided to recreate one of her looks, and this is from her party music video so my second look is 'Beyonce's party video look.' I didn't really want to do the exact eye shadow make up as you can see her's is a little more angular than mine and she used a brighter purple on the base of her eyes and she has some contacts on. Besides that, everything else is quite similar. If you've noticed, I'm not really a huge fan of false lashes or "falsies" I use them occasionally but If you feel the need to apply them all the time, that's okay.

sleek eye shadow palette

You can achieve both looks by using this really colourful sleek make up palette. It's quite affordable in superdrug and you can also purchase it online!
  Stay beautiful ;)
